Welcome to the opening of my new blog titled, Witt and Wisdom. I am excited to dive into several topics that have become close to my heart over the last several decades. In this pursuit, I hope to share my Witt and some wisdom that may pique your interest as we seek meaning and purpose in a shared dialogue. I will walk with you through topics related to leadership, education, literacy, spiritual growth, and current topics combined with a touch of humor/witt.
I have been blessed in many ways through my life. My wife Martha and I have five adult children and six grandchildren. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. I am a first-generation college student with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Master’s of Science in Literacy, Master’s of Education in Curriculum, and a PhD in Education. I currently serve as a professor of education, director of Graduate education program at Concordia University. I also seek to serve the underserved as the Executive Director of a long-standing non-profit, EdAchieve.
I have been in education and leadership positions for over three decades. As strange as it may seem, the seeds of becoming a teacher go back to an 8th grade basketball game. I describe this event in my book, Opportunities. I have been an educator, reading specialist, principal, and executive director in various schools in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Texas.
I started leadership and instructional coaching many years ago. I have had the honor to provide coaching support to leaders, educators, and students in Australia, Ghana, Europe, Beijing, far West China, and Hong Kong. I almost didn’t make it out of far West China, which, I thought I might land in a communist prison just because of how I looked. A word for the wise, it doesn’t help to speak loud English to mandarin speaking security.
Soon, I will launch a Witt and Wisdom podcast that will include interviews, thoughts, ideas, and questions from leaders, authors, students, and everyday folks from across the globe.
I hope to build a community of hope as we challenge our thinking and practices. Get ready to be inspired and motivated, learning something new, be challenged, and laugh.
